Con Weekend

That's from an insta person named "shortbroad"--accidentally cut it off in the pic.

Anyway, got out to the con this weekend. The weird part is that there were TWO cons this weekend, and I usually go to both of them--this is the first time they've put them on the same weekend, so I had to make a choice.

This one is closer and is all things horror, where the other one is just books. So I chose this one.

Took the Zig. We went up Friday afternoon and checked in. We were hungry so there's a new diner at the location--right between the hotel and the movie theater, so it's a short walk. And the food was great, served fast, and not all that expensive.

And man, were they diner portions. I was stuffed when I left.

We wandered around, said hi to a lot of friends we saw. Dom and Brett were here, for once. Zig said hey to one of the people from Fright Night that he'd worked with before. Guy's not looking great. He's supposed to do a commentary with two other people from the movie later that night...

Early on we walked past a table and this was on top. We took a pic cuz it was funny.

It didn't sell--I checked on Sunday before we left. If anybody had every actually BEEN at the table, I'd have bought it. Not like I have any to sell, and the disc inside looked pristine so I could move this.

We went to the commentary that night. Very cool to see the movie on the big screen, but the commentary was TERRIBLE. They clearly had never done a live commentary, because I'd say they spoke a grand total of about 10 minutes out of the whole thing.

They needed either a moderator or the director, who could have told some stories. Two of them in the pic below.

Then Friday we hung out and chatted, went to bed around 2:30am.

Saturday was more of the same. We went BACK to the diner for lunch, had the same thing. The breakfast-whenever-you-want was just too good to pass up.

Then more walk and chat. Then we got out to the Wishmaster with commentary, featuring the titular actor plus the director. This chat was way better--the director had some interesting stories while Andrew, the actor, would make people laugh by saying things in the Wishmaster's voice.

I could not finish all my popcorn, second movie in a row because of how full I still was from the diner.

We skipped dinner. Went back and saw some friends play some music with their band, then watched the Sax Man do his thing.

It was like 10:30pm when we got out, and we were starting to get hungry so I ordered a pizza...but it was buy one get one free, so I did that. They arrived about a half hour later, so I gave one away to some random surprised people out front, and took the other one to our room.

Ate it, then went downstairs but we were both pretty tired and not much was going on. After chatting with a few people, Zig went back to the room to go to sleep and I hung around for a little while longer but then joined him.

He was still awake, so I asked him if he wanted to watch something. I have this ff movie called Frog Man that I've been holding off watching, so we started that.

Zig was out in like 15 minutes, asleep. It IS a sort of boring first 30 minutes, most character building. Eventually it does pick up. A lot of people describe the last 20 minutes as batshit insane, but I didn't that it was THAT off the wall.

Sunday--back to the diner for lunch, and yes, we ate the same thing. Wandered around back to the convention, said our good buys and took off pretty early, like 1:30pm.

All in a all fun, but the night life has just never recovered at any of these cons since Covid. Lot of my friends don't even show up at cons any more.

Feel like there's a definite shelf life now...how many more cons am I going to go to?
